District Recap and Regionals Week

Posted on: May 20, 2024
Uniform Turn In
  • JV athletes- If your uniform isn't in Coach Continenza's or Coach Jacob's hands by noon on Monday, May 20, the replacement fee of $95 will be added to your account.
  • Varsity (non regional qualifiers)- You have until awards night on Tuesday to hand your uniform in.  If we don't have it,  the replacement fee of $95 will be added to your account.
  • Varsity (regional qualifiers)- Immediately after your last race of the season, you will be expected to change out of your uniform to hand it in.  If not...that replacement fee is coming for you.
Team Awards Night
Our end of the year awards night will be on Tuesday, May 21 in the Oak Hills High School Auditorium.  We will begin our presentation at 5:30pm and our goal is to be done in under 2 hours.  All team members and their families are invited and encouraged to attend.  Every single team member will be recognized.  There is not a strict dress code, but most team members will choose to dress nice.

District Recap
At the final competition of the year that included our full team, the Highlanders shined brightly.  The girls team finished 6th and the boys were district champions!  This is a feat that hasn't been accomplished by the Oak Hills boys in at least 50 years, possibly ever before (record keeping is incomplete from that time period).  In totally, our teams qualified 16 events to the regional championship next week in Dayton.  A top 4 finish at districts is the path to regionals:

Boys 400m- Brayden Holland
Boys 4x400m Relay- Amon'tae Johnson, Demar Parker, Ryan Linenkugel, Brayden Holland

Athletes of the Week
Varsity
Leni Sullivan- Leni is a 3 year varsity track athlete.  She competed in three events at the District Championships last week.  Placing 4th in the 4x800 relay and qualifying to the Regional Championships.  She placed 6th in the 400 meters running a season's best time. She was also a part of the 7th place 4x400 relay team.

EJ Schneider- EJ is a 3 year varsity track athlete. He competed in two events at the District Championships.  He was part of the 4x800 relay District Champion team, qualifying for the Regional Championships.  He placed 6th in the 800 meters. He has been an incredible team leader the past three seasons.  He also excels in the classroom and has a 4.0 GPA.

Cornellius Boyd- During his first two years competing in track and field, Cornellius has had many ups and downs, like most athletes.  However, what has defined him towards the end of his sophomore year has been his ability to rally back from disappointments.  Cornellius was the anchor on the 4x200m relay team that finished 4th at the district championships.  His performances in both the qualifying round and the finals were outstanding and helped Oak Hills upset several teams who were ranked faster.
