Track and Field Week 4 Recap

Posted on: April 8, 2024
Coaches Classic Recap
The varsity squad competed at Coaches Classic this past week, a meet in which 30 teams were represented.  To summarize the meet in a word: chaos.  There were a lot of competitors and it was a long night.  But as has been the theme for this group so far this year, our kids didn't make excuses for themselves.  They stepped up to the fierce competition and made the coaches proud.  The girls finished in 8th place and the boys were 2nd.  After a pair of wins at last weeks less competitive meet, it was very encouraging to see how the Highlanders matched up against some of the best in the city.

Athletes of the Week
JV
Avery Junker- Avery ran a great 200m race at Ross in the wind and rain, earning a first place finish.  She also completed in the 400m for the first time and achieved 7th place.

Dariyan Summers- Dariyan had a late start to the season, competing for the first time last Wednesday.  He wasted no time though, in establishing himself as the top sprinter on our jv squad.  He earned a 5th place finish in the 100m and won the 200m.

Varsity
Eva Hensley- Eva is a four year varsity track athlete who has played a pivotal role in the success of the track team. She is a great leader and role model on the team.  Eva has had a great start to the season.  She won the 1600 meters at the Ross meet running a PR time of 5:12 which is currently the 9th fastest time in the state and the third fastest time in school history. She has won the 800 meters twice this season running a PR time of 2:24. Eva will be attending Ohio University on an athletic scholarship to run Cross Country and Track.

Kosi Mkwananzi- Kosi is one of Oak Hills top point scorers and impresses every time he steps on the track.  Kosi was part of the 1st place long jump relay and 1st place shuttle hurdle relay on Friday at Coaches Classic.  He also came back a couple hours later and anchored the 3rd place Swiss relay.
